Welcome to Helen West Eventing
Helen was based at her parents' yard in Ipplepen for many years, before re-locating to Sidmouth in 2014 to be closer to Bicton Arena where she works as manager. She now enjoys competing a small string of quality young horses alongside her role at Bicton.
Helen started competing at the age of six, rapidly enjoying considerable success at Pony Club level. Her competitive edge first emerged when she was just 11 years old and was given the ride on Emma Hindle’s dressage pony Camdown Curlew. A year later she became the youngest rider to ever compete at Prix St Georges level.
Helen’s eventing career began with the talented ex-racehorse Hasty Arrival with whom she finished third at the British Junior Championships at Windsor CCI** and was then selected to represent her country at the Junior European Championships. The combination also rode for Great Britain as part of the Junior Dressage team.
Helen was selected for two consecutive Young Rider teams with Chaos, who she produced from a five year old and took to Advanced level. The combination won Gold at the Young Rider European Championships in Waregem, Belgium in 2001. Helen was also reserve for the British Young Rider team with Hollyhill Jovine (another horse she produced herself) who she competed at Bramham, Blenheim, Burghley and Chatsworth.
